Building an 8'x12' Shed

Since our upcoming house will be off-grid, we need a place to run & store a generator near the build site. We also need a secure place to store building supplies, and tools that we can keep out of the weather while building the house. So, a small shed adjacent to the house seemed like a logical prerequisite. This weekend I will hopefully finish the roof, but here are some picts of the progress so far.

Commodity lumber prices are just above $1,000 per  thousand board feet. Thankfully I only have to buy sheet goods, but 3/4" cdx plywood is going for over $60 per sheet and T1-11  is currently $51 per 4' x 8' sheet. Ouch!

Sarah recently got COVID, and shortly thereafter so did I. We were both current with our shots, so the symptoms have been manageable at home.

Poured 9 concrete pads for the 6x6 cedar posts.

Went ahead and put R-19 insulation in the floor before building 2x4 walls. We may have solar batteries in here, which would benefit from insulating the building.

12/12 pitch on the roof so I can have a little loft area overhead.

Making 1x4's for the metal roof from chainsaw milled pine. Installing them is today's project.
